Reflective Analysis Of My Personal And Professional...

This paper is a reflective analysis of my personal and professional development of my knowledge, skills, attitudes, showing how one aspect of my training has developed over year two of my nursing degree. It shall focus on communication, by using the nursing handover as an example. A handover can be described as a communication that results in a transfer of information and responsibility for a patient (Tregunno, 2009). I recognised in my first communication reflection in year one that it is a complicated and sometimes difficult activity, that requires the use of active listening skills, and an understanding of the content of what is being relayed, it gives and seeks information, as well as expressing emotions and attitudes, (Hinchliff, 2009). Throughout the two years the importance of good, clear and concise communication has become pivotal in my personal development. The patient handover is an excellent example of this; however in my first year I felt unequipped to give accurate handovers as I had little practice and was reluctant to develop this in clinical practice, as I felt that I had little engagement with my mentors over this area of my development.
